About Jamie
[Feel free to use these two paragraphs as my bio if you’re hiring me as a speaker.]
Jamie is a speaker, author, advisor, and culture scientist (okay, and also amateur comedian). His career spans 30 years, with more than a decade of research and practice in culture change, as well as deep expertise in organizational change, conflict resolution, and generations.
He is on a mission to create a world where everyone loves work, and he has co-authored four books — including the award-winning Non-Obvious Guide to Employee Engagement and his 2024 release, Culture Change Made Easy. He also holds a Master’s in Conflict Resolution from George Mason and a certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown, where he served as adjunct faculty.
My Journey
Forging a path toward the future of work.
I started my career in the field of international conflict resolution—and I loved it—but it was a very small field, so I ended up transitioning into doing work inside organizations, launching my consulting practice way back in 2001 (cleverly named Notter Consulting).
In 2007 I met Maddie Grant, which changed my life (in so many ways). It was the heyday of social media back then, and we started writing and speaking about the bigger implications of the social internet revolution, leading us to our first book, Humanize. We realized the point wasn’t social media—the point was that leadership and management were changing. Forever. The future of work was being invented.
The Consulting Brands
Culture That Works, WorkXO, Human Workplaces, and PROPEL
Maddie and I started our first company in 2014 (Culture That Works), realizing that culture was the key to unlocking the future of work. Over the next 10 years we did our consulting work under several brands, including WorkXO (where we created our culture assessment), Human Workplaces, and PROPEL. With each iteration, we continued to sharpen our approach to designing and managing culture.
The Next Phase
From Notter Consulting to JamieNotter.com
In 2025, I rebranded around me (again). Maddie is still co-owner of the company, but she is following her own passions now, plus I have a team of other consultants I bring in to help with larger projects.
My next phase is about serving organizations who are navigating transition, uncertainty, and cultural inflection points. The next 5-10 years will bring change unlike we’ve ever seen, and my mission is to help leaders and organizations create a new future, based in human-centered cultures, during this critical period of transformation.
